Which Riese & Müller E-Bike Is Right for Me?

Helping you choose the right electric bike

Riese & Müller builds one of the widest e-bike ranges in the world, which is exactly why choosing between them can feel overwhelming. Every model is available with a choice of motor, battery, drivetrain and frame style, so two bikes with the same name can end up serving very different riders. This guide breaks the range down by what actually matters: how you'll use the bike, not just which name sounds best.

Start with frame style, not model name

Riese & Müller’s model families typically come in two frame shapes: a diamond (crossbar) frame and a low step-through frame. The step-through versions share the same motor, battery and suspension options as their diamond-framed siblings, so the choice is almost always about ease of mounting and dismounting rather than performance. If you value swinging a leg over confidently at every traffic light, or you’re buying for two riders of different heights and flexibility, lean step-through.

Diamond Frame

Often considered the classic bicycle shape, the diamond frame is built around two strong triangles and features a horizontal (or near-horizontal) top tube.

This design provides excellent stiffness and strength, making it ideal for riders who want maximum performance and efficiency. Riders mount the bike by swinging a leg over the saddle.

Diamond frames are commonly found on performance-oriented bikes, such as the Riese & Müller UBN series.

Best for:

  • Sportier riding styles
  • Maximum frame rigidity
  • Riders comfortable swinging a leg over the saddle

Choosing the Right Frame Size

Most e-bikes are available in multiple frame sizes. The measurement typically used is the length of the seat tube, measured from the centre of the bottom bracket.

Your ideal frame size depends on several factors, including:

  • Your height
  • Leg length
  • Riding style
  • Personal preference

Many bikes are offered in Small, Medium and Large, while cargo or folding bikes often come in a single universal frame size with adjustable saddle and handlebars.

It’s important to note that frame sizes are not identical across different brands or models. A bike that fits perfectly at 51 cm from one manufacturer may feel completely different from another.

That’s why the best way to find your ideal size is to test ride a few bikes and see what feels right.

At Helmwind Cycles, we offer free test rides on our e-bike range so you can compare different sizes and styles before making your decision.

Bosch E-Bike Motors

Bosch motors are known for reliability, smooth assistance and advanced technology.

Common Bosch systems include:

Active Line
An entry-level motor designed for relaxed city riding, delivering 40 Nm of torque.

Active Line Plus
A more powerful version offering 50 Nm of torque for everyday riding and light touring.

Performance Line SX
Bosch’s lightweight performance motor designed for sporty e-bikes. Despite its compact design, it delivers 55 Nm of torque with extremely natural ride feel.

Performance Line
A powerful motor with 75 Nm of torque, ideal for touring, commuting and hill climbing.

Performance Line CX
Bosch’s most powerful motor with 85 Nm of torque, designed for demanding terrain and performance riding.

Cargo Line
Built specifically for cargo e-bikes, delivering 85 Nm of torque optimised for carrying heavy loads.

Battery Capacity and Range

The motor is the heart of an electric bike and plays a major role in how the bike feels to ride.

At Helmwind Cycles, we focus on premium drive systems, particularly those from Bosch and Fazua, which are widely regarded as the industry leaders.

Battery capacity is measured in Watt hours (Wh) and directly influences how far you can ride between charges.

Bosch battery sizes currently range from 400 Wh to 800 Wh, with some bikes offering:

  • Dual battery systems

  • Range extenders

In real-world riding, most e-bikes will comfortably achieve 30–80 miles per charge, depending on terrain, rider input and assist mode.

Avinox Lightweight E-Bike System

Some modern e-bikes focus on lower weight and a more natural ride feel.

The Fazua Ride 60 system is a good example, combining a 60 Nm motor with a 430 Wh battery in a compact and lightweight design.

This system is used in lightweight performance bikes such as the Riese & Müller UBN series, offering a ride that feels very close to a traditional bicycle — just with an extra boost when you need it.
